Welcome

Hello and Welcome to Writing From Photographs: From Image to Essay!

Over the next four weeks, we will consider how photographs can prompt writing, and where such visual encounters can take us in our writing.

You’ll work with your own photographs, inspiring your writing with concrete moments to describe, reflect, and develop into expanded pieces. At the end of the four weeks, you’ll have a short essay or the start of a longer piece of about 1,000 words or so

This small-group, workshop will include instructor feedback during the fourth week.

I’ve outlined each week on this site, with an overview of the session and links to readings that we will discuss. We will be writing and sharing writing during each session, and you will be asked to post writing during sessions three and four to share with peers. The writing we do during session can be done on paper or screen, whichever way is better for you.

We will be using Google tools to access readings and to share writing in weeks three and four.

Each Sunday session will be live on Zoom from 3:00 to 4:30 U.S. eastern. Please have you camera on during our discussions. During our in-session writing you may wish to be off camera.

If you have difficulties accessing readings or connecting to Zoom, please let me know at writinginpublic@gmail.com.

I look forward to meeting and working with each of you in the coming weeks.

Best,

James
